Charles goes paintballing
What a blast as Charles and I hit people with
the paintball gun. shot Charles, you hit my
brother Isaac in the back. nobody could get
you because you were the most camouflaged
and quickest there. When game one of
capture the flag had finished of course our
team won.
Then Charles was worn out so he decided he
would come and sit with my mum because he
was sore but he still had a blast sitting too.
Thanks for joining me Charles from McKenzie

Debates...
We have been working on our debating skills in Year 9 classes these last couple of weeks. It has been fun! Lots of persuasive words and phrases have been used...I found this Slideshare that might be useful as we enter the last round.

Secret Codes!
The Year 7's have started their work based around Communication and the history of writing. Today as it was Fun Friday they were developing secret codes and then writing them in invisible ink to be deciphered by their friend. Both lemon juice and milk were tried...with lemon juice being the most successful.
The lemon juice was used to write the code, then the secret message was revealed as heat from the iron was applied to the paper!

World War 1 Collectibles
Today I brought in some collectibles from ww1 the box that you can see is a box that was given only to the British Soldiers by Queen Mary on Christmas 1914 this box was my Mothers ancestors. If you lift the lid there is a little compartment in this compartment there would be tobacco, chocolate and a note. The pictures are postcards that would've been sent to people back home. There is a postcard with lots of men wearing the helmets of the Germans that the British soldiers had killed. By Maia Carrington 9CT

Another Hot Friday!!
We have been learning to identify parts of speech in other people's writing. Today was a chance to create some "Memory Stickers"- posters for the classroom to help us remember them all. Well done 9CT it was another beautiful but HOT afternoon - great focus from you!! These will help all the classes!

Week 3 Friday Creativeness!
Today was a creative afternoon for Year 7 and 8 classes. We were creating stuffed heads to display with our term one goals. We know that good learners are really clear about what they are learning, why they are learning and what they will need to focus on next.

Special delivery today!
How many of you have "extras" in your letter boxes? This little guy was taking shelter in ours today, I really like weta and try to always rescue any that I come across. The Giant Weta is an endangered species...and also important food for Tuatara...which are endangered also - so that is a tricky situation!
This guy is a tree weta I am pretty sure, probably just wishing his tree wasn't so wet!

Week One
English classes are off to a great start! We have been looking at goals and aspirations for the year for individual students; we know that the more students are able to identify their own strengths and areas of challenge the better their learning will be.
We have also started revising and learning Parts of speech; most of these will be identified as we examine poetry and short story writing. Year 9 and 10 are using a theme of World War One and Year 7 and 8 NZ events.
